Quality management system update: routine internal review

The lab runs a scheduled internal review of its quality management system on a regular cadence — a self-assessment of procedures, records and controls, independent of any particular incident or client concern. The most recent round has just wrapped up, and it's worth summarizing what came out of it.

The review covered standard operating procedures, calibration records, sample handling and chain-of-custody logs, and how corrective actions are tracked when something needs to be fixed. Reviewers looked for gaps between what a procedure says and what's actually practiced day to day, which is usually where small inconsistencies accumulate over time.

The outcome was a handful of documentation updates: a few SOPs were clarified or consolidated where two documents had started to overlap, and the onboarding checklist for new analysts was revised to reference the current versions of each procedure. None of the changes reflect a gap that affected an issued result.

To be clear on that last point: no previously issued Certificate of Analysis is affected by this review. It's a maintenance activity, not a response to a specific issue with prior results, and it's exactly the kind of thing an internal quality programme is supposed to catch before it becomes one.
